On Friday 10 September, a 75-year-old man died in hospital. He was living in a retirement home. He was suffering from several illnesses. The president of the local government made very solemn remarks during his daily press conference: “We have to face a health crisis that is going to be tough and, I believe, unprecedented. Our only response, the only effective, possible response, that is scientifically confirmed and proven around the world is vaccination.”

 It’s only just begun

“Since Monday 6 September, 117 new PCR-confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded, including 51 on Thursday alone. These numbers will continue to rise, inexorably. The number of cases will therefore most certainly explode in the coming days. More deaths are also to be expected. Meanwhile, vaccination is progressing. The goal is to reach 90% of those vaccinated by the end of November. That’s about 260,000 people. It will help avoid the Tahitian-style scenario that has already claimed more than 500 lives.
