The swimmer attacked by a shark on Sunday at around 4pm on a beach in Noumea is an Australian tourist.

The swimmer was brought in by two rescuers on a jet ski. He was given a heart massage on the beach, but to no avail. The man did not survive his injuries. All the beaches of Noumea are closed again. A new shark culling campaign is already scheduled.
On 29 January, a 49 year old Noumean woman was attacked by a bulldog shark on the same Château Royal beach. She was seriously injured and is now being treated in an Australian hospital.
On Sunday 5 February, on another Noumea beach, a week after this attack, a foil racer was also attacked by a shark. He was not injured.
