Individuals must stay at home at night.

For the past twelve days, New Caledonia has been under a state of emergency. This means that Caledonians must stay at home between 6pm and 6am the following morning.  French President Emmanuel Macron has decided to end this state of emergency… but only in part.

Only people with a public service mission will be able to go out at night.

Health personnel will also be able to leave their homes.

In a press release, the President of the Republic explained that this decision had been taken to allow meetings between leaders of the pro-independence party (FLNKS). In particular, the aim is to enable political leaders to go out to the roadblocks to ask young people to stop blocking the roads.

So far, 7 people have died, including two gendarmes, and 122 police officers and gendarmes have been injured. 460 people have been arrested.
