The streets of Noumea are moving again. The trucks that were blocking the roundabouts in the capital have left. An agreement was signed during the night of Thursday to Friday 10 March between the demonstrators and the president of the party, l’Éveil océanien. The latter had proposed that social security contributions for the self-employed be increased by more than double.
After a night of negotiations, an agreement was signed, but the conflict is not over. Discussions on the financing of the New Caledonian health system (Ruamm) have only just begun. At least ten billion francs a year (more than 120 million US dollars) must be found.
